Going Deeper
-Read Matthew 7:7-8. Does this mean that whatever we ask for, God will give it to us? What do you think Jesus is talking about here?
-Read Matthew 11:12. What do you think Jesus means by “violent” or “forceful” in this verse? How does it describe the way we ought to be seeking the Kingdom of God?
-In the book of Genesis, Jacob is renamed, “Israel” because he “struggled” or “wrestled” with God. What does it mean to “wrestle with God”? And is it a good thing? (see Genesis 32:24-32)
-Is it easy or hard to enter the Kingdom of God? Compare some of these Scriptures as you consider your answer: Matthew 7:21-27; Mark 10:17-31; Luke 14:25-33; John 3:16; Acts 16:25-34; Romans 3:23-24, 10:9-13; Ephesians 2:8-9.
-According to the verses above, do we gain access to the Kingdom of God based on what we do or based on what we believe? Does that mean it’s easy or hard to enter?
-According to the verses above, what do we have to believe? What do we have to accept? What do we have to reject? Why would someone find that difficult?
-In order to receive God’s free gift of grace, what do we have to give up? (see Mark 8:34-38)
-Read Mark 10:21-22 again. Is Jesus saying that anyone who wants to receive eternal life needs to sell everything they own? If not, what is the point He’s trying to make?
-Read 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. If we believe this to be true, how does it change the way we live?
