- Read Matt. 18:21. What is Peter asking? Why is he asking it?
- Read v. 22. What is Jesus saying here?
- Read v. 23-27. How is the servant in big trouble? What does the King do? How is this unbelievable?
- Read v. 28-30. What did the forgiven servant do? How is this unbelievable? Why is it unbelievable?
- Klyne Snodgrass says: “The kingdom comes with limitless grace in the midst of an evil world, but with it comes limitless demand…God acts, and his people are expected to act in accordance with His actions and character.”
- Read v. 31-34. What did the fellow servants do? How did the King respond? What is the end result?
- Do you forgive others or do you keep track? What will you do
- Read the ominous end in v. 35. What is Jesus saying? Look at Matt. 6:14-15 and 1 John 4:20-21. If you are unwilling to forgive others, what is result?
- J. C. Ryle says: “Nothing so grieves the Holy Spirit and brings spiritual darkness over the soul, as giving way to a quarrelsome and unforgiving temper.”
- “Unforgiveness is linked to higher incidences of stress, heart disease, high blood pressure, lowered immune response, anxiety, depression, and other health issues according to a Johns Hopkins study.”
