Going Deeper Questions
- What did God do for Israel up to this point in Exodus? What is God seeking to do now? Tony Merida says: “God rescues and redeems us, and we should follow and worship, trust and obey Him.”
- Read Ex. 23:20-22. What choice do the people of Israel have? What are the consequences? Are you obeying God today? Why or why not?
- What are the people to do in v. 23? What will God do?
- What are the people instructed to do in v. 24? How does this apply to your life today? Why should we have no other gods?
- How could v. 25-26 be taken out of context?
- In v. 27 the Lord will cause terror in the hearts of the Canaanites. This same word is used in Gen. 15:12; Job 39:20; 41:14. Read those passages. What kind of terror is this?
- Will God send literal hornets? Peter Enns: “[The hornets] is probably a graphic symbol of God’s defeat of the Canaanites.” Compare with Joshua 24:12.
- Read v. 29-30. Why won’t the Lord drive Israel’s enemies out right away?
- Do you trust the Lord with your life? Why or why not? Read Prov. 3:5-6.
- Read v. 32-33. What does God instruct His people to do? Why does He give them these instructions?
- Read Joshua 24:1-15. What did God do for Israel? What did Israel do? What is Joshua committed to doing?
- Actions have consequences. What will you do this week? Who will you serve?
