- Read Acts 4:32 with Acts 2:44-45. What quality of the early church is highlighted? How will you follow this example in your life?
- Brian Vickers comments on radical generosity: “Through their actions they fulfill the second great command to ‘Love your neighbor as yourself,’ which summarizes the Mosaic law and becomes a hallmark of the fulfillment of the new covenant (see Lev. 19:18; Matt. 19:19; Mark
12:31 ; Luke 10:27; Rom. 13:9; Gal. 5:14; James 2:8).” - William Larkin: “If grace is on us, we will be gracious to others.” Have you been given grace? How do you need to show grace to others?
- Resurrection is key to their witness (Acts 4:33). Read 1 Cor. 15:14. What does Paul say about the resurrection? Why does the resurrection matter?
- Read Acts 5:1-11. William Larkin says, “Satan now attacks Christ’s mission from within as he had done through Judas and Peter (Lk. 22:3, 31)…The father of lies (Jn. 8:44) starts in the heart, the source of all
decisions concerning possessions and their relation God (Lk. 12:34; 16:14- 15; Acts 8:21-22).” John Stott says, “[Satan’s] cunning assault was moral corruption or compromise.” How does the enemy tempt you to compromise? - Read Prov. 26:28. Why is lying so damaging? Why do people lie? Why have you lied in the past? In what ways do you need to be more truthful?
- William Larkin says: “Sin blinds us so that we choose short-term gains in this life, heedless of the long-term loss in the next.” Read Luke 9:24-25.
- John Stott says: “It is to live a transparent life before God, without deceit or deception.” Are you living a transparent life before God?
- Read Leviticus 10:1-7. What did Nadab and Abihu do? Why did God judge them so immediately and harshly?
- Read Acts 5:12-16. What did the apostles do? Can we do what they did (see Deut. 34:10-12)? Why or why not?
- Read Acts 5:13. John Stott comments: “The presence of the living God, whether shown through preaching or miracles or both, is alarming to some and appealing to others. Some are frightened away, while others are drawn to faith.” How have you seen this in your life?
