Going Deeper
- The early church was devoted to the Apostle’s Teaching. How have you learned from other believers? How have other believers pointed you to Jesus? How are you doing this for other believers?
- The early church was devoted to fellowship. Read 1 Jn. 1:3. Who is our fellowship with? Why is fellowship important according to Heb. 10:24-25? Are you devoting yourself to the fellowship of believers?
- The early church was devoted to the breaking of bread. Do you “break bread” [have a meal] with fellow believers? Why is this an important value for the people of God?
- The early church was devoted to prayer. We can pray boldly (Heb 4:16), expectantly (Luke 11:9-10) and regularly (Colossians 4:2; 1 Thess. 5:17).
- When God does not answer our prayers does it mean He does not love us? Tim Keller put it this way: “God will either give us what we ask or give us what we would have asked if we knew everything he knows.” How does this change your perspective?
- William Larkin says: “[Prayer] is the essential link between Jesus and his people as they carry out his kingdom work under his guidance and by his strength.” What are some ways you are devoting yourself to prayer?
- Read Acts 2:43-47. Should we do everything the early church did? Why or why not?
- We can and should be generous. Read Luke 12:13-21. What is the point of Jesus’ parable? How can we apply generosity in our lives?
- How might you be approaching the fellowship in an unhealthy way (Church as an add-on, an obligation, earning your way to God or making yourself feel better)? How do you need to reorient your approach to the fellowship?
- Read the end of Acts 2:47. Who saves people? What does God call us to do? What will God do?
- In your own words, what is the church and what should the church look like today?
